Wikipedia Alert

   Students, academics, Scouters, and the general public should exercise caution when reading content on Wikipedia regarding Scouting/Guiding. There are known errors relating to the history of Scouting/Guiding on these pages. For information on the webmaster’s experience, click here. A recent article that uses Scouting as an example, is: "How Does Wikipedia Measure Up?" Quill 96, no. 9 (2008): 16-19.
   Persons wishing to research the history of Scouting/Guiding are encouraged to consult the material listed in the Bibliographies, especially those published in peer-reviewed journals and by academic presses.

December 13, 2009: New, recent and forthcoming publications have been added to the Recent Publications.

November 9, 2009: New, recent and forthcoming publications have been added to the Recent Publications. The finding aid to the Daniel Carter Beard collection of papers at the Library of Congress has been made available on the Archives page.

November 5, 2009: A CFP has been posted on the CFP page. Due to a lack of interest, the Bulletin Board has been removed. For those currently involved in research and publishing, a Google Group has been created. Please note that this group is for the purposes of exchanging information of an academic nature on this topic.

October 5, 2009: New, recent and forthcoming publications have been added to the Recent Publications. An upcoming event has been posted to the Events page. Information on a a couple of other sites have been added to the Video page.

October 2, 2009: Several recently defended dissertations have been added to the Recent Publications page, including Ben Jordan’s dissertation (""A Modest Manliness": The Boy Scouts of America and the Making of Modern Masculinity, 1910-1930"). Copies of BSA historical documents, filed in a now closed trademark infringement case, are now available on the Documents page.

October 1, 2009: A page of video clips has been made available.

September 30, 2009: New and recent publications have been added to the Recent Publications. Corrections of some typographical errors have been made. Tammy’s book on Girl Guiding/Scouting, is now available.

May 29, 2009: New and recent publications have been added to the Recent Publications.

May 18, 2009: New and recent publications have been added to the Recent Publications. The new book Scouting Frontiers, has its own page!

April 9, 2009: New and recent publications have been added to the Recent Publications.

March 25, 2009: New and recent publications have been added to the Recent Publications. In light of the extremely low participation rate on the Bulletin Board, it will be closed next month. There is not enough interest from the community to justify the expense required to make it available. I will maintain an e-mail list of current members and if someone wishes to immediately inform the community, please contact me.

November 19, 2008: Links to Book Reviews on H-NET have been added to two items on the Recent Publications page.

October 27, 2008: New and recent publications have been added to the Recent Publications.

July 22, 2008: A bibliography on GSUSA has been updated and made available. A Poll has been created on the Bulletin Board for both amateur and academic historians of Guiding/Scouting.

July 21, 2008: A new Guide to Archives and Manuscript Collections has been made available.

July 20, 2008: A new Bibliography on Camp Fire USA has been made available.

July 14, 2008: Several Bibliographies have been updated and a new ones have been added.

July 9, 2008: New and recent publications have been added to the Recent Publications page.

July 8, 2008: A CFP has been added to the site.

June 23, 2008: New and recent publications have been added to the Recent Publications page.

June 18, 2008: Several new documents have been added to the web site.

May 4, 2008: Several items have been updated on the web site. A list of those items is available in the Announcement section of the Bulletin Board. Future modifications to the web site will be posted on the board and registered members will be notified of such changes via e-mail.

April 1, 2008: The web site is now on-line, as is the Bulletin Board!
